Tip of Texas Family Outreach

HISTORY

Tip of Texas Family Outreach (TOTFO) was formed from an idea developed by Mrs. Gloria Hughes, a former nurse and memeber of the Cameron County Child Welfare Board who was a special advocate for children. She decided to make her vision for Brownsville, "the prevention of child abuse", a reality and contacted Mr. Remberto Arteaga of the Texas Department of Human Services. In January 1987, TOTFO was formed by a Volunteer Steering Committee which consisted of future volunteers who wanted to make a difference in the community of Brownsville. Family Outreach opened its doors to the public in March 1989.

OUR GOAL

The primary goal of Tip of Texas Family Outreach is to prevent child abuse and neglect. To achieve this, caseworkers visit families in their homes, teach positive parenting and role modeling skills to parents and provide public education and awareness of the prevention of child abuse.

WHO WE ARE

Tip of Texas Family Outreach is non-profit, 501 c 3 Agency working with "at risk" families to prevent child abuse and neglect. Many programs and services are offered to educate parents so that they may become better parents in order to provide a healthy, safe, nurturing environment for their children.  Most of the services provided are "free of charge".

BEING A PARENT

Being a parent is not easy. Sometimes parents need help to feel good about themselves and their relationship with their children.

Many parents have someone to turn to for help when they need to talk, but many do not. Our agency is here to help. Family Outreach is here to support families and provide parents with the skills and resources they need to raise happy and healthy families.
